strong and heavy
Works well so far (touch wood!). It's strong and solid and quite heavy. I haven't bothered with the bit that will attach it to the frame as I use my own technique of carrying a lock (around the seat-post with the heavy end secured to the rack with bungee cord). Would recommend this lock as it is slightly longer than your average D lock.

Chunky
A very well made lock, it feels heavy & strong. It's 'Sold Safe' rated, which is the stamp of approval from the insurance industry.

This particular model is quite large and so only just fits inside the frame of my bike & I'm 5 foot 11 (1.80m) so if you are short, or have a small bike, you'd be better off with a smaller lock. Fortunately Magnum do make a smaller version.

There are cheaper locks, but it's unlikely they'd be as strong as this one.

Recommended.

Had to return it
Lock is sturdy, slightly longer than most so it fits well around stand/wheel/frame, and I used the cable to attach the back wheel. However, after 2 weeks of mild use, the key began sticking. I spent 15 minutes trying to unlock it one day, went back inside to get the remaining keys in case it was a key issue, and spent another 5 wrestling with it. After finally getting it open, I peered inside and saw that the key mechanism slots weren't aligned exactly and were loose. Had to return it. Not sure if I just got a lemon, but I'm not willing to risk having a locked up bike far from home, or a bike unable to be locked up. I ordered a different one.

Good strong lock, but with a fatal flaw
I purchased this lock in October 2010 at a very good price. All was well until March 2011 when the key became stuck in the lock and eventually sheared off while I attempted to remove the key. It was lucky that the key sheared while I was unlocking it in preparation of locking the bike to a metal railing, as if it had happened when trying to unlock my bike from the railing, I would have been stranded over 20 miles from home.

After this happened, I read some of the reviews of this product on Amazon and found that I was not the only person to suffer from this problem. Therefore I can only deduce that it is either a design or manufacturing defect and I have submitted a claim under the Consumer Protection Act of 1987.

My rating can only be the lowest possible due to this problem.

Good lock for my foldable bike
Fantastic product! I'd recommend it to everybody. It addapts easily to my foldable bike.

The Varedo 47 has a level 9 out 15 in the Abus security scale (Abus is a leader company in security products), but it's enough to chain your bike in the streets.

If you are looking for the most secure lock you can get the Abus Granit-54, but is a heavier and more expensive model than the Varedo.

I think that Varedo 47 has good quality/price rate. Just one con, the weight, about 1kg.

Some niggles
It's large so not easy to find space to fit if you have a bottle carrier. The biggest problem is the plastic fixing piece, difficult to describe the problem but one can not fit the lock directly within the bike frame, the fitting has to be to one side so it partly sticks out. Potential to catch feet or thighs. Also the key must be fully inserted and it's all to easy to partly turn the key without fully engaging the mechanism. You then spend time turning the key back and forth trying to either withdraw it or push it fully in. Very irritating. I'd not really recommend this lock for these 2 reasons.
