Good but not great for some surfaces & very heavy
In the (2009 & 2010 UK) winter I use these instead of my standard Marathon Plus tyres. These are even heavier and fairly hard to fit.

My ride consists of road, hard surface tow path and a mile of "muddy tow path". When it snowed last year these were fine. When it turned to compacted snow on the roads and flat surfaces these were supreme, but took a lot of effort to pedal as they need to run at a low pressure when on "ice" (so as many studs as possible have contact with the street). When there is no snow, their grip is only average. They slide around in mud even though they have a much more aggressive tread than the normal Marathon Plus. On tree roots I thought they would be better than they actually are, luckily I rarely hit wet roots!

I "ran in" the tyres in as instructed and have not lost any studs yet despite doing several hundred miles in two years if not thousands! (I do 20 miles a day). The other review for these (different size tyre) says that they've had...
