looked better than it performed
The Saris Bike Poter looked very slick on setting it up onto the car, but on first use we heard a repeated and annoying loud thud each time there was a small bump in the road, even when carrying just one light MTB. On closer inspection, and after some searching, I discovered the arm located closest to the tightening-up dial was slightly loose where it anchors into the base section (The right arm when looking from rear of car). The other arm however was rock-solid. The base unit did not appear easy to open in order to inspect whether it was simply a nut or bolt needed tightening inside, so rather than take any risk causing damage and invalidating the warranty, I sent it back. I don't know if they are all like that?
Of course cars are all different and we had the new VW Polo, but furthermore it did not seem to be realistic to put three bikes onto this rack, because the pedals of the bike closest to the car would almost certainly be scraping the bodywork (imho).

Saris are a really good manufacturer. Made to a high standard and very fit for the purpose. Would recommend to anyone wanting a versatile and well made bike rack.
